Sunshine!

If you notice in this picture, there are no bars in sight! The sun was peeking out from behind the clouds and he seemed to really be getting the hang of leading so after I brushed him I decided we should go for a walk.

He wasn't too sure about this whole stepping outside his nice safe pen so we took it nice and slow.

Head out the gate
Here we've made it as far as his head out the gate. And yes I know he still looks thin, we're working on it!

Halfway out!
Halfway out, we can do this!

We made it out!
We made it and the sun peeked out again!

We then went for a walk around the backyard. He was moving forward pretty well, but didn't try to pull away or anything. We'd stop and I'd snap a few more pics and then we'd move on again. I am house-sitting right now so this weekend Mom is going to be feeding him for me so probably won't have time to play again until Monday. But I think we ended the week on a pretty good note!

Awww what a swell guy! He really looks like he's enjoying himself.

You may want to worm him again if you haven't already. When I brought my first mustang home from the Corrals, he was pooping worms...even though they had wormed him pretty recently. I like the Panacur powder that you give for like 3 days in a row or something like that. It really clears out their system. Once he figured out that grain was good, I just dumped the packets on the grain and he ate it right up.

I'm not seeing Panacur in a powder (but then, I should be leaving for work and don't have time to look, lol) but what about http://www.horse.com/Safe-Guard-Equi-bits-BBL44.html ? Other than that, I am finding Panacur in a paste and not sure if I'm ready to alienate him by giving him a paste dewormer just yet.

Boy, I thought he looked like Tonka before, but that last picture they REALLY look similar. Sweet face, same legs and overall build. Tonka has kind of a funny knobby narrow head that CB doesn't have, but they're still really similar. They've got to be pretty closely related. So cool!

If my memory serves me right (it's been 7-8 years now) my vet recommended it to me and I got it from her. But, I treated another horse with it and thought I bought it at a feed store.

In doing my quick search on the internet, I'm only finding the Panacur granulars in the UK. I'm finding the Panacur Powerpac here in the US and it's a pack of 5 tubes that you administer one tube per day for 5 days. I believe it's apple flavored. So, if you've been putting your finger in his mouth and getting him used to that he'll probably be ok with the tubes.

But, you should check with your vet first.

SafeGuard should be good. I try to get five days of it down them. Fenbendazol is what my vets call for (which is what SG is.) Anything you can get down him, probably :)

And don't stress over the weight, it'll come.

Why did you get sunshine and I got ice???

The morning started out gray and then by the time I left work the sun had peeked out from behind the clouds. It disappeared again but them came out when we made it outside his pen :)

Interesting the things you learn :) Was reading about dosing recommendations for the SafeGuard and Panacur and came across this:

"For foals and weanlings (less than 18 months of age) where ascarids are a common problem, the recommended dose is 4.6 mg/lb (10 mg/kg); one syringe will deworm a 550 lb horse."

And then it also mentions doing it for 5 days. Think I'll give that a shot. (Found the info at Country Supply, is that the one to use your code at Tracey?)

I love the weather you are haveing and wish I could offer constructive acvice but all I can do is enjoy the pictures and present moral support, what a wonderful feeling it must be to take him for a walk, freedom must feel the same for all of us including those we love as our most valued partners/pets, hard to call CB a pet so I will call him a
partner, way to go Kristi keep up the good work, look forward to more pics Monday, this must mean you are done with inventory??
Took Jonny fishing today, no luck but still fun, reeeeeeally cold!!
