A Quick Post Before Work

So I have been getting up at 4am to go walking with a friend on the east cost. The first morning I got up that early, I fell back asleep when I got home. After that first morning though, I felt guilty since he had to go to work and couldn't go back to sleep. So I have been staying up and once it gets light out I go take care of Cody.

This morning, we went for a short walk to watch cars go by. We will need to do that a few (dozen) more times! The first couple cars he didn't really care for but was able to just stand there and watch by the time we left.

The other success was that I got him to step out onto the road (he wasn't too sure about stepping onto that strange surface)! Definitely a case where slow and steady, rewarding movement in the right direction paid off.

I love being around horses, they have so much to teach about patience and sticking with something.

Here are a couple pictures from yesterday morning.

Sounds like a great morning! That's WAY too early for me though.

It's nice and quiet that early in the morning. Probably the loudest thing I hear as I am walking is the frogs!

Nice way to start your mornings.

Cody looks like he's grown...have you been measuring him?

The last time I measured him he was about 14.2, but it's been awhile since I did. He was seeming a little taller in his stall the other day, just didn't have the tape on me. He had been looking a bit rounder for a time, but now he seems all bony angles again, maybe he's going through a growth spurt, lol. I'm giving him more to eat so hopefully he'll look a bit rounder again :)

He looks all shed out! That is an early walk. I rarely see the sun come up. That's always a big experience for me--beautiful, but painful at the same time.

I agree with you--horses are a joy to work with. I could live in the barn (when it's warm!)

Are you out walking after midnight? And will you continue when the rains begin once more?

Cody's looking good.

That's what one of those oilskin hats (or I suppose an umbrella) is for--to walk in the rain, lol.

It's nice and quiet at 4am to go for a walk, and then by the time I get back and have something for breakfast, it is light enough out to go play with Cody.

On another note, my uncle asked if Cody could be staked out with a line attached to a single hobble to eat grass in the backyard. Umm, no?
